IT Infrastructure

Your current infrastructure exists of an IBM 390 host, a few hundered PCs and some Windows NT/2000 servers, distributed through the company:

Computers

- IBM 390 based system covering the operational applications
- 200 PCs of different brands, running Windows 95/98/2000/NT workstation + MS-Office 95/97
- 3 departamental servers for production, marketing and product development departments, providing storage and Microsoft SQL Server services, hosted and managed by each department
- MS-Exchange mail server

Network

- Three 10MBit 10Base10 (cheapternet) segments
- One 10MBit 10Base2 (twisted pair) segment and
- One 100MBit 10Base2 server segment
- The five segments are connected using a central switch

Hosting

- Centralized server room for the IBM 390, the Exchange server and the network switch
- Marketing has its infrastructure located in "under the table"
- Production has a printer room where it hosts its file server
- Pro

This configuration doesn't really look like an optimum solution in terms of system failures and maintenance time, so you should consider to modernize and centralize atleast part of these systems to free some resources for the e-Business initiative that your big boss is preparing...
